India's GST Collection Crosses ₹2.5 Lakh Crore for the First Time in February 2026

The Ministry of Finance reported that Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection reached ₹2,50,163 crore in February 2026 — a 19.4% increase over February 2025 — crossing the ₹2.5 lakh crore milestone for the first time. CGST contributed ₹45,918 crore, SGST ₹57,211 crore, IGST ₹1,34,827 crore (including ₹59,014 crore from imports), and Cess ₹12,207 crore.

India Assumes Presidency of International Solar Alliance for Third Consecutive Term

India assumed the Presidency of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) for a third consecutive term at the 7th Assembly of the ISA in New Delhi. India pledged an additional USD 200 million to the ISA's Solar Risk Mitigation Initiative (SRMI) for developing nations. Supreme Court Rules Live-In Relationships Entitled to Domestic Violence Protection

The Supreme Court in a five-judge Constitution Bench ruling held that persons in live-in relationships are entitled to protection under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, irrespective of the duration or registration of the relationship. India Commissions BrahMos NG (Next Generation) for IAF's Tejas MK-2 Integration

Ladakh Wetlands Gain Ramsar Site Status: Tsomoriri and Pangong Now Protected

Ministry of Culture Launches Digital Archiving of 50,000 Manuscripts Under NAMAMI Mission

The Ministry of Culture launched Phase II of the National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM) digitisation initiative — NAMAMI — targeting 50,000 manuscripts across 4,000 manuscript repositories in Sanskrit, Prakrit, Pali, Arabic, Persian, and Tamil. Appointment: Justice K. V. Viswanathan Elevated as Chief Justice of India

Justice K. V. Viswanathan was elevated as the 52nd Chief Justice of India by the President, following the collegium's recommendation. Justice Viswanathan, formerly a Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court, was directly elevated as a Supreme Court judge in 2024 — a rare appointment from the Bar.
