India's GDP Growth for Q3 FY2025-26 Pegged at 7.4% by NSO

The National Statistical Office (NSO) released the Second Advance Estimate of National Income, placing GDP growth for Q3 (October–December 2025) at 7.4%, driven by manufacturing (8.7%), construction (10.2%), and a revival in agriculture (4.6%). Gross Value Added (GVA) at basic prices grew 7.1%. The full-year FY26 GDP estimate stands at 6.8% at constant (2011-12) prices, above the RBI projection of 6.6%.

Union Budget Passed by Parliament; Finance Bill 2026 Receives Rajya Sabha Nod

The Finance Bill 2026 was passed by the Rajya Sabha, completing the budgetary process. Rajya Sabha cannot reject the Finance Bill (a Money Bill under Article 110) but can recommend amendments, which the Lok Sabha may accept or reject. This marks the constitutional completion of the appropriation process. The Budget is presented under Article 112 (Annual Financial Statement) read with Article 110 (Money Bills).

India Achieves 200 GW Installed Renewable Energy Capacity — Ahead of Target

India crossed 200 GW of installed renewable energy capacity (excluding large hydro) — achieving the COP26 commitment of 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 nearly four years ahead of schedule when combined with nuclear and large hydro (total non-fossil: 211 GW). Solar power constitutes 112 GW, wind 48 GW, and small hydro 5 GW. India's National Solar Mission is part of the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC).

DRDO's Quantum Communication Link Established Between Delhi and Agra

DRDO and the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) jointly demonstrated a 200 km Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) communication link between Delhi and Agra over optical fibre. QKD uses quantum mechanics principles to generate cryptographic keys that are theoretically unbreakable. The technology is intended for secure government communications and critical infrastructure under India's National Quantum Mission (budget: ₹6,003 crore, 2023-31).

India Deploys INS Shakti for HADR Operations Following Cyclone Enawo in Bay of Bengal

The Indian Navy deployed INS Shakti (fleet tanker) and INS Kirch (corvette) for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations in Myanmar's coastal districts following Cyclone Enawo. India invoked the "Neighbourhood First" policy and dispatched 60 tonnes of relief material including medicines, tarpaulins, and water purification units. India's HADR operations are coordinated by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

PM POSHAN Scheme Expands to Cover Class 9-10 Students in Aspirational Districts

The Ministry of Education announced expansion of PM POSHAN (formerly Mid-Day Meal Scheme) to cover Class 9 and 10 students in all 112 Aspirational Districts under the erstwhile NITI Aayog Aspirational Districts Programme. The existing scheme covers pre-primary to Class 8. PM POSHAN is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme funding school meals for 11.8 crore students; the 2024 amendment added fortified rice and millets.

Survey of India Releases High-Resolution Digital Elevation Model of Western Himalaya

Survey of India (SoI) released an open-access high-resolution (3 m pixel) Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of the Western Himalayan region (Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, J&K) generated using CartoDEM V3 derived from Cartosat-3 data. The DEM will support glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) risk mapping, avalanche prediction, and infrastructure planning. Survey of India was established in 1767 and is the national mapping agency.

ASI Unearths Rare Kushana Period Monastery at Mathura Archaeological Site

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) excavated a large Buddhist monastery complex of the Kushana period (1st–4th century CE) at Govindnagar, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Finds include over 200 terracotta figurines, a polished Mathura sandstone Buddha in meditation pose, and votive stupas. The Kushana empire, founded by Kujula Kadphises, was a major patron of Gandhara and Mathura art schools.

Shri V. Narayanan Assumes Charge as Chairman of ISRO

Shri V. Narayanan, a cryogenic propulsion specialist, assumed charge as Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Secretary, Department of Space. He succeeds S. Somanath and was associated with the development of the CE-20 cryogenic engine used in GSLV Mk III. The Department of Space was established in 1972 and the Chairman of ISRO also serves as the Chairman of the Space Commission.
